About Matt

Matt is a painter, educator, and mayor from Somersworth, NH. When not governing and teaching 8th graders, he finds himself particularly inspired by the conserved areas of the Great Bay Watershed of Seacoast NH and Southern Maine. Much of his work has centered around outdoor spaces in this region of New England. His primary medium is oil paints, and he loves the creation of thick, textured colors and contrasts. During the winter months when the bright colors of summer are gone, Matt channels his creative energy with quilting. He enjoys making quilts for close family as gifts for major milestones, and appreciates the are physicality, usability, and longevity of these pieces. As both a science educator, local elected official responsible for numerous city parks, and an artist, his work often centers around the outdoors and what can be learned from the places we live. He encourages people to explore the many local sites named in his artwork.
